Any System Can Benefit From Skillful Tuning

We can make almost any system better with our artful, polished touch.  From large line arrays in big halls to compact 2-way speakers in small rooms, the difference will leave you smiling.  We can do our finest job when we have the best equipment  to employ (such as the latest DSP units where we can run FIR blocks), but we can make impressive improvements in lesser systems as well.  For example, the measurement at the left shows a “before and after” in a small church with medium-quality speakers in a bad location and only a limited DSP.  Nevertheless, a SEFI tuning made a huge difference in the sound quality by fixing errors previously made by others in the DSP and achieving the best possible compromise of all the relevant parameters.

FIR Filters 

SEFI is one of the very few companies today that has the knowledge, equipment, and skill to build and implement FIR filters in the field that can be used to correct things that were previously uncorrectable, including phase issues.   Read our FIR article here.

Video Displays

SEFI uses specialized color and brightness analyzing instruments and software to calibrate video monitors and projectors for accurate and natural color.

Type 1 Accuracy 

SEFI has the equipment to meet Type 1 standards  (also known as Class 1) when needed.  This is the applicable standard for measurements that must stand up to legal challenges in court.

Exquisite Tuning 

It has been said that “It isn’t bragging if you can really do it.”  System tuning is the process of optimizing an audio or video system using sophisticated instruments to accurately measure, adjust, and calibrate the vast number of parameters within modern systems.  This is SEFI’s specialty, and the results are often dramatic.  Speakers sound strikingly better.  Cameras produce improved tones and superior pictures.  System gain is maximized.  Projectors are calibrated and/or matched.  System gain structure and limiters are set to protect the system from damage, while carefully preserving the full performance of which the system is capable.  We often find that systems have been previously misadjusted or set incorrectly, even by “professionals,” and we locate and fix these performance-hampering mistakes. Tuning an audio system to sound incredible or a video monitor to look stunning requires far more than specialized test instruments.  We have the instruments, but our churches know that it is our experience and skill that makes the difference.  Anyone can come to a sanctuary and just change some settings, but our expertise lies in optimally blending an artful touch with technical knowledge, knowing what to fix, how to fix it, and what to leave alone - that’s the SEFI touch.
