Articles
Over the years, we have written articles about various
topics, and we make some of them available here in the
hopes that they may serve as a reference for churches
dealing with these particular issues.
This article was originally
written in 2014, and it was
published by Synergistic
Audio Concepts, the
association of professional
audio practitioners and
designers. We in the pro
audio community have for many years pushed to bring a
powerful digital processing tool called FIR (finite impulse
response) filters to the field as we are tuning systems for
our clients. Now, finally, with the right measurement
tools and new, powerful software, we are able to
accomplish things we were never able to do before, and,
more importantly, we can achieve a level of quality and
realism previously unattainable in tuning installed
systems.
As you read this article, you may well find that many of
the terms and concepts are “over your head,” however,
the important take-away should be that having your
system tuned by someone with the skill and equipment
to implement this sort of advanced digital processing can
and will produce amazing results.
This article is adapted from
a presentation originally
given by Robert Bernecker
at Techxplosion in Tampa
Florida. It is a look at
common mistakes that we
have observed at many
churches, and its often light-hearted approach to
frequently repeated mistakes makes for enjoyable
reading.
We believe that the information in this article is also a
great primer on why churches should seek outside
expertise when considering audio and video system
changes or upgrades. In the long run, steering clear of
easily-avoidable mistakes saves the church more money
than the cost of a qualified designer.
Reverberation in Churches
This article is intended to
convey a basic understanding
of the concepts and challenges
that are involved in the acoustics of a worship space. We
hope that it is an easy read, and that it will equip you
with the knowledge needed to know when a supposed
“expert” is telling you things that are not necessarily
correct. As a result, you will be able to better work with
your acoustic consultant as he or she develops a design
for your space.

LCR Sound Systems - What Are the
Benefits?
The term “LCR System” is often
thrown about when church
sound systems are discussed.
However, the term is more often used incorrectly than
correctly! SEFI Consulting has done a number of LCR
systems, and we are big proponents of LCR designs
when they are done correctly. This article discusses the
characteristics of a true LCR system, explains the benefits
and technical challenges, and explores the costs.
This is another article that may provoke questions. Feel
free to contact us with your questions, ideas, or
inquiries.
